Bolt Thrower - New Album Recording Delayed

U.K. metallers Bolt Thrower have issued the following update:

"We've spent the last year trying to write songs for a new album, planning to go into the studio this summer, unfortunately, after a lot of thought, we have had to make the difficult decision to postpone the recording indefinitely. We know everybody says that their new album is better than their last, but with us we really believed that. From day one we made it clear that we'd stop recording when we felt we'd written the ultimate Bolt Thrower album, we just never knew when that would be, we kind of took for granted that each release would get better and better. But we have realised now that our last release, "Those Once Loyal" turned out to be that album, and basically the new stuff we have written just doesn't match up to it. We have a lot of pride in our back catalogue, and we refuse to turn into one of the many bands (like the ones we grew up listening to) who end up releasing crap, and we're also not prepared to compromise by instead releasing an album of cover versions or a 'best of' album. Sorry to disappoint those of you looking forward to hearing new Bolt Thrower songs, but we always said that we would never release anything we weren't happy with or that, in our view, didn't at least match up to our previous work.

For those of you living in Holland, Germany and Belgium, you will get the chance to see Bolt Thrower live soon, as there are a few select shows lined up. The confirmed shows are:

7th August - Atak, Enschede (NL) - This is our second home, and we've played at Atak on every tour for the last 18 years. Sadly the club will be closing down this month and they will be moving to a new building in the Autumn. So we were chuffed when they contacted us and offered to re-open for one night, so we can say farewell to this cult club and be the last band to ever play there. We decided that the tickets will be free and we will be informing you soon on the line-up and how to get tickets.

8th August - Party.San Festival, Bad Berka (D) - As headliner we will play a longer set than usual, so expect to hear a lot of songs we haven't played for a while.

9th August - Hof ter Lo, Antwerp (B) - For this show we will be joined by the best and upcoming bands from the Benelux. The confirmed support bands are: God Dethroned, Born from Pain, The Setup and Anaphylactic Shock. Tickets are 11 Euros, and you can find more info here.

We'll post more info when we have it. Hope to see you at the gigs."

Bolt Thrower - To Headline Germany's Party.San Open Air

British death metal veterans Bolt Thrower have been announced as headliners of this year's Party.San Open Air Festival, set to take place on August 7-9, 2008 in Bad Berka, Germany. The band has stated the following about their only festival appearance of the year:

"So, we're very happy to announce that the festival we have chosen to play this summer is the Party.San Metal Open Air Festival in Bad Berka, Germany on 7-9th August. Tickets are only 39.60 Euros, including parking and camping, and the festival is capped at only 10,000 visitors, so considering this and the already killer line-up, it looks like it will sell out in advance. So, we suggest that people who want to buy tickets on the day, should check the availability before they set off, to avoid the disappointment a lot of people had at last year's sold-out Summer Breeze Festival, where they got turned away.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Cheers,
Bolt Thrower"

Other bands to play at the festival are Obituary, Behemoth, Impaled Nazarene and Legion Of The Damned among others. Click here for the full lineup.

Bolt Thrower - Not Playing Wacken After All

Bolt Thrower have posted the following message:

"Thanks a lot to the 17,484 people who voted in the poll, it was very much appreciated! Poll Results]

As you know, this time we decided not to decline the Wacken Open Air offer as usual, but to have a poll and hear your views on it firsthand, before making our decision. Obviously we realised that a lot of people who would be voting would not necessarily be into Bolt Thrower, but we were very interested in the comments you would send. In the end we received hundreds of comments, and the huge majority confirmed what we were already thinking, that WOA 2008 is not the right festival for Bolt Thrower.

We would like to thank the WOA organisers for their very unique offer and wish them every success, and for those of you going to WOA 2008, and who voted in favour of us playing there, we hope you have a great weekend.

We will soon be deciding and confirming which festival Bolt Thrower will be playing next summer. Thanks again to all of you who participated in the poll."

Bolt Thrower - Vote BT On Wacken Open Air 2008

UK Death Metal steamrollers Bolt Thrower have posted the following message:

"As most of you probably know, Bolt Thrower don't like to play festivals, but as a lot of you want to see us playing festivals, we try and play at least one festival a year. After receiving numerous offers, we now have to choose which festival to play next Summer, and would like you to help us decide.

As BT are not financially driven, the fee is pretty irrelevant, as is whether we play to 1000 people or 100,000. Our main requirement would be to have our usual merchandise / meet and greet booth, with no price restrictions.

Wacken Open Air festival have asked us again to play next Summer, and the date would fit in with the gap in our planned recording and mixing schedule for next year. A lot of you have asked us to play Wacken over the years, and a lot of you have advised us not to play it, for various reasons.

So now, we would like you to help us decide by taking part in the following poll.

Poll: Would you like to see Bolt Thrower play the Wacken Open Air festival?

We'd really like to hear your opinions, so please vote... "

Bolt Thrower - New Live Video Available

A live video of British death metal veterans Bolt Thrower performing the song "The Killchain" (from 2005's "Those Once Loyal") at the 2006 edition of Germany's Rock Hard Festival (which took place June 2-4 in Gelsenkirchen) has been posted online at YouTube.com.

Bolt Thrower earlier in the year completed a European tour in support of its new CD, "Those Once Loyal", which entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 76 ? the group's highest-charting release in Germany so far. The follow-up to 2001's "Honour, Valour, Pride" was recorded at Andy Faulkner's Sable Rose studios and is the band's first album since the return of original vocalist Karl Willetts as a full-time member.

Bolt Thrower - Forced To Cancel US Tour

Death Metallers Bolt Thrower have been forced to cancel their US 'Those Still Loyal' tour. The reason being that the band's record label Metal Blade refused to financially back the band (pay for plane flights, etc). Bolt Thrower themselves did try to make the tour happen, but it was to no avail as they simply couldn't finance the tour on their own, and has stopped any further planning.

The band has made the following apology:

"Bolt Thrower apologises to Maurizio & Thunderdome Touring, the promoters/bands who were willing to participate in the tour and their fans in the US who were hoping to finally see them live. Regrettably, it looks like while Bolt Thrower are signed to Metal Blade Records they will be unable to tour the States".

Bolt Thrower - Studio Report

The following is a studio report posted by drummer Martin Kearns on the band's official site:

"The time has finally come - recording the new album! Can't wait to get on my kit and knock out some new tunes!! It's a real pleasure recording at Sable Rose - the studio's killer, but dead relaxed, Andy is a great engineer (and comic genius), so I know the next couple of months are definitely gonna be memorable!! Ok, here goes..

WEEK 1
Get picked up by Phil (the drum tech), and we spend the day setting up the kit on the new rack, and re-skinning it all. I went for old-style pinstripe heads on the toms, and they're sounding really cool. The new snare I'd bought for the recording sounded ok, but it wasn't blowing me (or anyone else) away, but thought I'd see how it's sounding when it was miked up.. A hour or so later and the kit's got all the (13!) mics on - we start soundchecking the kit: everything is sounding killer, except the new snare. Back to the drum shop?

Next day, Vic (from Dr.um) lends us 3 snares to try out in the studio! The Premier brass was no good, the Ludwig wood had a really nice tone, but was lacking on the attack, so we tried number 3, the Noble and Cooley. It looked cool, matt black shell, rims and fittings, and the attack was immense, ok, we're rolling again? Start running through some of the new songs to loosen up and relax and I break my favourite China! Well pissed off! Back to the Dr.um..

Day 3 - Cymbals! Vic saves the day yet again, and lends us a few cymbals to try out, amongst them I found my new favourite China, the Istanbul. We run through a couple of tracks and sort out the headphone mix, which I apparently have at an inhumanly loud volume! The mix tears everyone else's face off, but I'm still struggling to hear what I'm playing! OK, we're finally ready to record...

Take 1, everything seems ok, get a bit rushy, blow a section or two, and it's over...

Take 2, going good, but I tried a couple of new things, didn't execute them very well and lost the flow. Tea, chat, try some of Gav's 'relaxation techniques' and listen to takes 1 and 2...

Take 3, nailed it! Well happy. Everything I wanted to do was there. Song 1 down. I run through song 2...

Right, ready for song 2. Re-soundchecked the kit and it's all sounding great, so we go for a take straight away. This particular song has a few drastic tempo changes, so with that and me struggling to hear Baz's guide guitar, it takes a couple of runs through for me to get it to flow. We record 3 takes, and pick the best, another song down.. Rehearse the next song for tomorrow amongst general piss-taking, movie talk, tea, sandwiches, etc?

Bolt Thrower - Willetts Rejoin The Band

"BOLT THROWER have found a replacement for the recently departed Dave Ingram.

The band is very happy to announce that original vocalist Karl Willetts has rejoined them as a full-time member.

Karl said, "It's fantastic to be a part of the mighty BOLT THROWER again. It feels great to be back with the guys, I can't wait to get my teeth into the new songs and get back on the road again. I've got some unfinished business to attend to...!"

The now complete line-up of BOLT THROWER - Karl Willetts, Gavin Ward, Barry Thomson, Jo Bench & Martin Kearns - will spend the next few weeks finishing off the new material and plan to go into the studio in the new year."

Dave Ingram leaving Bolt Thrower

Sadly the singer has to leave beacuse of health problems, here are a few worlds from the band:
"Dave has been suffering with health and personal problems for a while now and he has decided that it would be best if he left the band to concentrate on his recovery. We would like to thank him for the 6 years he dedicated to the band and we wish him all the very best for the future."

The band has planned to enter the studio, but this will be delayed until they found a replacement.
